2014 Groth Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

2014 Groth Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc

I was recently in Napa and enjoyed an amazing tasting with food pairings at B Cellars, in a prime semi-new Oakville location, that I highly recommend, as much for the food as for the B Cellars wines, especially their ’12 Dr. Crane.  But across the street from B Cellars, in this prime of all prime spots in the valley, was Groth, a winery that I have explored before, but one that I hate to admit that I kind of forgot about amid all the various Napa wines in the area.  Now a week later, I’m at Costco and I run into the ’14 Groth Sauvignon Blanc for $16.99 and I knew I had to try it.

The wine pours a light yellow, with floral, garden aromas and a hint of orange liqueur; light in body with a healthy dose of acidity, and beautiful citrus fruit flavors, more orange liqueur (Grand Mariner), lemon zest, a little green apple and some slight oak influence on the finish.  I found this to be a very enjoyable white for summer days that can pair with a wide range of food, and a wine that I’d recommend readers who enjoy this style should try.

Just stopped by costco and they had the 2012 kirkland chianti classico riserva's for $8. I purchased one I haven't tried it yet. I was wondering if you had tried other vintages of this and if you liked it. I am really hoping it is as good as the kirkland rioja for a similar price.

I have not tried the '12 but will definitely review it if I find it. I thought the '11 was a good buy (http://costcowineblog.com/2011-kirkland-signature-chianti-classico-riserva/) but those KS Riojas are hard to beat for under $10. Let me know what you think of the 12 Chianti if you crack it.
