2012 St Urbans-Hof Mosel Riesling

2012 St Urbans-Hof Mosel Riesling

This is a beautiful Riesling for $15.99 at my Costco.  I was looking for a bit of a different white wine to review that would be really food friendly, and this turned out to be just the right pick.

Mosel is the epicenter of many awesome dry Rieslings, and while this bottle has a touch of sweetness to it, it remains rather dry and clean, and should satisfy most palates.  Citrus, lemon and lime on the nose, leads to flavors of peach, apricot, pear and sour apple with some tart on the finish.  This wine has a nice body to it, not feeling too light or puny.  The finish is really superb, clean and refreshing.

We found this wine to be perfect on the back deck during a typical hot Atlanta summer evening.  We enjoyed the wine with a summer salad and the two couldn’t have paired any better.  The salad contained spring mix, strawberry, feta, roasted sunflower seeds with a balsamic vinaigrette (all ingredients except the dressing also purchased at Costco so the whole great meal cost less than $25 which is kind of cool).  Low alcohol too on this wine (9.5%).
