2010 Chateau Bernadotte Haut-Medoc Bordeaux

2010 Chateau Bernadotte Haut-Medoc Bordeaux

I’ve had a lot of luck with Bordeaux lately, finding great wines at not so exorbitant prices, and was interested to see what this bottle was all about that I found at my Costco for $21. It’s an Haut-Medoc (includes Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, in this case about equal parts of each) from a fantastic year, 2010, and if you search online the bottle is closer to $30 almost anywhere else.  Ok, I’m intrigued.

Signature Bordeaux on the nose, instantly old world, with barnyard, earthy, dusty library book aromas. The wine is medium in body and silky smooth with soft tannins; a very elegant wine. Flavors of red fruit, black cherry mainly, a little plum. Dry throughout, chalky on the finish, perfect for the grilled fillets we prepared.

Suffice to say, this wine is in a really nice drinking window right now.  Sure you might be able to lay it down a bit longer, but I gave it an hour decant, and it was off the races. I wouldn’t sit on it any longer.

I’m going 91 points on this wine, especially when considering the price point.  It really is that pleasant, and in many other parts of the wine world, you’d be looking at double or triple this price for a wine of this quality.

I also came across a few 2012 Petit Verdot from Duckhorn. Bought one to try since I have never tried a red before solely based on this grape; it was always in blended red wines. Must be very good since I have yet to be disappointed by wines from Duckhorn Vineyards. Have you tried this type of wine before by any chance?

Not the Petit Verdot but I would buy it in a second. Love almost every bottle of Duckhorn I've tried too. I've spent some time at the winery and it made me appreciate them even more. Good stuff made by good people.

I found this Bordeaux for $18.99 at my local Costco (Mtn View, CA) and really enjoyed it for Mother's Day dinner at home. I'll go back to get a couple more and hopefully, there's some more left. Thanks for this timely coverage.
