2009 Chateau Larteau Bordeaux Superieur

Published: Mar 12, 2016 · Modified: Feb 12, 2021 by Editor ·

I dropped this bottle into my cart on a whim thinking that I had tried it before, but I couldn't find any tasting notes, so I guess this is my first review of this wine.  Either way, this bottle is a steal for $9.99.  It's super ripe and fruity, tasting at times (particularly the finish before it got air) like those large canned Hawaiian Punch containers you enjoyed as a kid that had to open at both ends with a bottle opener and pour in a glass.  As it sat in the glass for a while it developed into a rather nice Bordeaux drinking perfectly right now.

This wine is 100% Merlot in a really enjoyable expression of the grape, and again, quite a bargain at this price. It soft and light having aged a while, delicate in the mouth, flavors of jam, cherry and fruit punch, candy on the finish; finish is dry and chalky.  I think you could pour this blind to someone and tell them it was a much more expensive Bordeaux and they might not bat an eye.

Good value here, especially for right bank Bordeaux fans.

I am a fan of this wine and Cameron Hughes red wines.

That is a self canceling phrase!
Cameron Hughes? Really? Those grapes could be from anywhere!

This wine was just displayed at my local Costco but the vintage is 2012 and the price was 8.99. I'll try it this evening.
