NV Austin Hope Troublemaker Red Blend
|Kind of a fun one for a change, this bottle is a Rhone style blend from Paso Robles. There’s a fair amount going on with this wine given its varietal makeup, and I found it to be pretty nice overall, yet maybe a little overpriced at $16.99 at my Costco.|
The blend consists of 55% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and 5% Petite Sirah. So while the wine has the Rhone grapes, it’s definitely a more new age style compared to what you would get from Southern France. Nose is really inviting and fresh; medium in body; flavors of licorice, red fruit; finish was a little dry and quick for my tastes.
I’d probably get more enjoyment from a $17 bottle from Gigondas, but if you want something a little different, give this one a shot.
