2013 Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel Rose

2013 Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel Rose

I’ve been meaning to get around to trying this Costco Rose.  It’s been a reader favorite, a frequently mentioned wine across the social networks and was priced at $18.99 at my Costco, which I think is an ok price (I’ve seen it elsewhere closer to $15).  We decided to pair this on a summer day with a fresh Greek salad consisting of cucumber, tomato, avocado and feta with a homemade Greek Vinaigrette.  It was an excellent combo.

The wine is made from a blend of Rhone varietals including Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.  But this is a completely different interpretation that your standard Rhone reds, and I found it to be really refreshing. The color is a silver pink.  Flavors of red berry, strawberry, cherry, raspberry, with a mouthfeel that’s super dry, not sweet at all.  Paired with the salad, this wine was superb.  On its own it was equally nice to enjoy on a nice late summer night.

This is a fun one.  Bring it to a dinner party, or give this bottle as a gift.  It will please a wide range of wine drinkers.  I’m adding to our Top Picks selections too.
