2013 Burgans Albarino Rias Baixas

2013 Burgans Albarino Rias Baixas

2013 Burgans Albarino Rias BaixasAlbarinos are perfect for breaking up the summertime routine of defaulting to your standard Sauvignon Blancs and Chardonnays when seeking hot weather wine refreshment and summer fare accompaniment.  We made a spinach and kale salad (most fresh from the garden), threw in some beets, goat cheese, carrots, almonds and a homemade vinaigrette, and this bottle, and it was perfect on a 98 degree evening in Atlanta.

The Burgans Albarino is a signature showcase of this varietal. I’ve been enjoying them for years, and haven’t noticed this at my Costco in at least a few years.  It’s too bad because Costco’s $11.59 price tag is clearly the lowest I’ve ever seen.  This wine is $17.99 at Total Wine right across the street from the Costco I shop at.  So stock up if you enjoy Albarinos and see it.

The wine is straw golden in color.  Tropical fruit on the nose, and then flavors of pineapple, grapefruit, lots of apricot and pear in the mouth.  Finishes with a little acidity and tart.  This is all done very fruit forward, no wood, very clean and crisp.  My wife was looking for a beach wine and after one sip she knew this was exactly what she wanted.

Good price on an enjoyable summer favorite. I’m going to put on our warehouse Top Picks list due to Costco’s unbeatable price on this bottle.
