2009 Kirkland Signature Chateauneuf-du-Pape
| OK, here it is, finally. I've received quite a few inquiries about when we would see the 2009 Chateauneuf from Kirkland, and I just saw it hit my store for $19.99. I found the 2008 vintage to be a great bottle for the money, and this one follows suit, with maybe a touch more enjoyable finish. This bottle has a slightly different makeup, consisting of 59% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 4% Vaccarese, 4%Counoise, 3% Mourvedre, 3% Muscardin and 2% Cinsault. So maybe it's making a little bit more use of the regions varietals at its disposable. It's a big wine as you would expect, pleasant nose with a lot going on from the get go. Spicy enough that it made me blink. Full in the mouth, with that classic Chateauneuf earth and fruit blend, and a great finish that's both dry and lasting. A very nice wine, and I'm going to again put it on our Silver Rated wine picks, but I'm going to bump the rating up a point from last year. This is a fun wine if you like them big, and you won't be able to find too many Chateauneufs that cost less than $20. CostcoWineBlog.com Rating: 91 Points *KirklandWine* *Silver Rated* |
