2011 Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse Chardonnay

2011 Louis Latour Pouilly-Fuisse Chardonnay

2011 Louis Latour Pouilly Fuisse ChardonnayLouis Latour is an wine-exporting legend.   They are negociants who bring a sizeable number of decent French wines to foreign markets dating back to the 70’s, if not before.   Among their bestknown exports is the Pouilly-Fuisse.   Occasionally, it will appear on Costco’s shelves – most recently in 2010.   Well, it’s back and at a lower price, to boot.  This is a white burgundy at $13.99 is a about $3-8 less than what you’d pay at other winesellers.  (BevMo is currently offering it for $21.99)  It offers that very-French-like lovely, crisp, smooth, lemony, chardonnay for which you’d expect to pay over $20.

We noted flavors of grass, apples and stone fruit.  Yet, doesn’t have much (if any) oakiness – restrained but not absent.  And it’s got this small hint of fruity sweetness that complements any meal but also drinks very nicely on its own (unlike a lot of French burgundys)  We served it with shrimp curry and it paired beautifully.  If you like crisp and bright wines, this will boast the desirable aspects of barrel aging and malolactic fermentation without the California chardonnay bravado.   Costco doesn’t usually carry this wine,  so grab it while it is available – an  affordable and reliable burgundy that will please most all dining companions.
