2006 Kirkland Meritage
Just like almost everything at Costco, this bottle from Costco's Kirkland brand is a fantastic bargain. It's not an over the top amazing Meritage for that matter, but for only $10, it's right at the top of its class.
Comprised of 69% Merlot, 29% Cabernet and 2% Cab Franc, it's the signature Bordeaux varietals wrapped up in an incredibly inexpensive package that creates a fantastic go-to bottle for almost any occasion. It took a little while to open up but developed into a nice black cherry, fruity and slightly spicy red with a perfect touch of oak for an all around pretty polished wine for the price. You could toss this bottle into a blind tastings and really catch some people off guard.
I've been meaning to try more of these Kirkland bottles and this one definitely peaked my interest.

Can you recommend some good wines in costco that age well? I want to buy a wine for my new born baby and keep it till she is 21.

That's a great question and one that I've thought about as well. You could buy a high end Brunello or Bordeaux, but it might be safer and a lot less expensive to stick to a Sauternes or Port. Depending on the selection at your Costco you may be able to find something that will work, but you will have many more options at a larger specialty wine store.

Thanks for suggestion. I have read mixed views on this but do you think I need to buy a specialized long term wine storage unit for storing the wine for that long?

Yes, anytime you store wine for long periods of time you need an ideal, consistent temp and humidity. I have used a wine fridge for the last 8 years that has done nothing but please. And we use an area of the basement to store some wines where it's cooler and consistent. You'll have to determine what will work best for your setup. There are many articles about this online from people who know much more than I do. I hope that helps.
