About CostcoWineBlog.com

Everyone loves Costco. The merchandise is top notch and the prices are great. Thankfully, this also applies to their wine aisle, which offers a great selection of varieties from all over the world at excellent prices, just demanding to be properly explored.

Now, there's a resource to learn more about the wines you will find at Costco - so you can find extreme values, enjoy the remarkable selection and perhaps be compelled to try new wines that you may have overlooked before.

About the Ratings

We are rating wines on the commonly used and widely accepted 100 point scale. Wines of particular quality for the price will be listed in the Value Picks section. Other noteworthy wines may receive a Gold, Silver and Bronze distinction.  Please take the time to read more about our thoughts on wine ratings.

    Hello,

I enjoy reading your wine reviews, could you tell me in which region do you buy your wine? While I was in Texas I tried to find the same wines but couldn't. At Costco they told me that the wine selection is different depending on the region.

Thank you for sharing this passion for Costco wines.

Thanks for the note.  I buy my wines primarily at 2 different Costco locations in the Atlanta area.  Even between the two stores, which are less than 15 miles apart, the selection varies widely.  As with most things at Costco, items come and go quick and it's never predictable.  This applies to the wine too.  If you see a bottle one day, it could never be there again.

I've had many comments come in though indicating that quite a few of the wines I'm reviewing are found at their stores around the country.  I can think of comments I received from Boston and Southern CA along those lines.  I think it's a fast moving game that's really hit or miss depending on the particular store.

I'm glad you find the site helpful and hope you are able to find many of the bottles I review on here.
      Regards,
      Radcliffe

Hello, I just ran across your blog (very nice, I might add) and had the same question the other guy did - where the heck are you located because I go to Costco every single week and look at the wine selection every week, too. When I go out of town I make it a point to visit the local Costco and check out their wines. And I have seen hardly any of the ones you review! I am in Southern California, by the way. I would think we'd have a better selection than you do in Atlanta but most of the wines you have reviewed are nowhere to be found at the Costco locations I have visited (and believe me, whenever I see a Costco I am hypnotized and have to go in).

Glad you enjoy the site.  One of the tough parts about doing this is the difference in selections at various Costco stores and regions.  I wish there was a good solution to this, but unfortunately there really isn't.  I purchase my wine from two different stores in the Atlanta area (Cumberland and Kennesaw) on a regular basis and try to scoop up others when I'm traveling.

I also just do this for fun, and between just a handful of people, we probably couldn't review many more bottles than we already do.  Plus sometimes, I do cheat on favorite wholesaler and hit the wine warehouses for the bottles I can't find at Costco.  Hang with it though; I've received comments and emails from people in all different areas of the country who do find many of these bottles, and several are even found in Costco stores in Tokyo.  It's just hit or miss, and I have no idea how widespread the bottles I am reviewing are in the grand Costco distribution scheme.

What a fantastic blog. My wife and I live in Vancouver, where Costco does not carry wines, but leave on our 2nd trip to Palm Springs next month, to our rental home. Trying to plan what and where to buy wine, among other things, when we get there, and you've just taken hours out of our searching around on our own. Thanks a bunch, good job, keep it up!

I live in Calgary Alberta and we are lucky to have private wine stores in our province, therefore Costco is allowed to have stores here and what fun it has been. Ifound your post recently and look it up often to see what's new and what's good to try. i would say we have maybe 40% of what you write about and I always look forward to the new Kirkland brand theycome out with. keep up the good work and cheers my friend.

Thanks for the note, and I'm glad you enjoy the site.  I am also happy to hear that you are able to find a fair amount of the bottles that we review.  Not everyone is able to find that many.  Hope we continue to help you find some winners.
