2009 Chateau de Cruzeau Pessac-Leognan Bordeaux
|An elegant and refined Bordeaux for such a young age, from one of my favorite Bordeaux regions, Pessac-Leognan. I’ve tried the 2005 vintage of this wine (not from Costco) and absolutely loved it, so I was thrilled to find the ’09 at Costco for $19.89 (I paid more than that before).|
Comprised of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, this wine comes together like a much more expensive Bordeaux. It’s medium in body with a fresh nose, vibrant cherry, plum and red fruit flavors. Has a nice little bite to the finish that lingers in the mouth. Very food friendly (I enjoyed with a grilled steak which was perfect). All around a very nice, smooth wine.
Pessac-Leognan is an awesome area of Bordeaux to grab wines like this from. I’ve noted this in my book on French wine, which serves as a good primer on this area as well as many of the other notable parts of Bordeaux. Pessac-Leognan offers great values that remind me of its many famous neighbors, at an unbeatable price. This one will go on the Bronze Rated wine list. Enjoy.
