2008 Franciscan Estate Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
|A classy Napa Cab at a good price; this Franciscan was $18.99 at Costco, which is about on par with most other stores, so I was a little disappointed to see it without the typical Costco bulk discount of 10% or so. But buyers will be doing themselves a favor regardless. This is a solid Napa cab. |
Nose is incredible, super inviting and leading on that this is a heavy hitter. So yes, there’s a little bit of a let down perhaps once you get the wine on the palate. But while there’s nothing jumping out screaming this is something special, there’s also nothing you won’t enjoy about it. It’s well rounded, easy drinking and pretty safe to serve to just about any red wine drinker.
This one should be easy to find too. It’s been around my store for what seems like forever, so perhaps it will become one of the Costco regular wines in stock. which wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Also, look upmarket at Franciscan’s Magnificat, a Bordeaux blend that’s spectacular, especially the ’07.
