2008 Black Box California Cabernet Sauvignon
I’m a fan of the box, especially for what it is designed for – an easy and inexpensive way to pour a glass or two anytime without having to open an entire bottle. They are perfect for weeknight dinners when you just want a glass with a meal, and the quality of the Black Box Cabernet makes it one of the best boxed choices I’ve had.
For only $15.99 at Costco the box equates to about 4 bottles worth of wine and can be poured over a 4 week period while retaining freshness in the fridge. My only complaint is that red wine from the fridge (and white for that matter) comes out too cold to really get the true flavor. After playing with the Black Box for a week, I learned quickly the importance of letting it sit for a good 20 minutes before consuming.
Onto the wine, I thought it was excellent for the price (you’re paying the equivalent of about $4/bottle). I was expecting that overly fruity cheap wine taste that plagues so many low end wines, but I found this to be rather pleasant throughout. Nice fruit, dry in the mouth with a short but smooth finish. Overall, a great Costco pick that I might just get hooked on, and one of the easiest Value Picks I’ve tasted.
