2006 Giordano Toscana Rosso
This is a “close but no cigar” Super Tuscan in my book. It starts nice, great smell, feels good in the mouth, but then dies a pretty quick death once you get that first burst of flavor. There’s a funk that comes off this wine, really toward the end and aftertaste, that just hit me as not being very pleasant.
I like a lot of these rather inexpensive Super Tuscans (this bottle was $12.99), but this one is a few steps behind some of the others I’ve written about, many of which are priced less (under $10). I would pass this one up and go for the Frescobaldi Remole, a much better choice for an inexpensive Tuscan blend of this style and you can find it for $8.99.
