2006 Clos Du Val Chardonnay Carneros
What a nice, pleasant, non-oaky Chardonnay from Napa. This wine doesn’t taste like it’s label would indicate, and it’s a label I will try not to forget. I was expecting a drinkable Napa Chardonnay with huge body, tons of oak and flavors zizzing every which way, leaving me as many US Chardonnay’s do, a little confused. But I was very pleasantly surprised.
This is a great Costco purchase where you can find it for $18.99. I bet if you’re accustomed to CA Chardonnays and like that distinct overriding oaky flavor, then you might think this is a little tame. But if you’re like me, and you are looking for tame but refined, this is a strong contender.
At $20 there are a lot of fun Chardonnays to be had, so I’m going to give this bottle a Bronze rating, as it should certainly be tasted, and it should be kept in mind when tasting others in this price range.
