2006 Belleruche Côtes-du-Rhône M. Chapoutier
I’ve been looking for a bottle like this for a while now – a good everyday inexpensive, Cotes du Rhone. Is this the one? M. Chapoutier is always a name to look out for so when I came across this bottle for $8 at Costco I had to give it a shot. (Goes with the philosophy that good winemakers don’t know how to make bad wine).
There’s something to be said for this bottle. It’s primarily Grenache with 20% Syrah, and has a nice amount of spice too it, but it’s not overbearing. It plateaus kind of fast, but is relatively pleasant throughout, and leaves you satisfied in the finish. I think you could throw this on the table any night to have with dinner and you’d be doing yourself a favor.
For $8 it’s still a great bargain and a bottle that should be explored. I’m going to rate it just slightly above average. It’s not a bad wine; I was just hoping for a tad bit more refinement (which I know is a lot to ask at this price).
