2005 Riondo Amarone Della Valpolicella
|An Amarone at Costco for $21.99? How do you pass that up? Well, obviously I didn’t, and while it turned out to be worth the experience, this bottle will not stand among the memorable Amarones I’ve tried.|
I was happy to see it was a 2005, which saved it a bit because the little bit of age was noticeable. It’s definitely Amarone, has that unmistakable taste, but lacked the refinement that this region is known for. And that’s maybe why it was priced just over $20.
But all in all, this is a big full bodied red, nice spicy, cherry flavor, love the texture (age helped) and the finish was pretty lasting. A good wine, not just a great one.
